Weight on the hand in Trikonasana

This has been an area of interest to me. I even did a survey carring a scale to yoga classes.
My understanding is that in Iyengar Yoga there is a "small" amount of weight in the hand in Utthita Trikonasana.
I have noticed that in Iyengar Yoga all of the side extended standing asana have a connection to the ground.
So the question is what is the nature of this connection.
Try this. Without looking down, place your hand or block on a scale. When doing your normal Trikonasana, look down to see the
weight in your hand. Do the second side. Note your weights.
Mine were not what I thought they would be.
Anyone take measurments, have comments, insights?

I have practiced yoga for over 25 years. I have had many teachers. My favorite are Shiva Rea, Rodney Yee, Sarajoy Marsh in Portland and Kirk Slobody in Seattle. I took classes from Bob Smith for many years in Seattle.

I have taken iyengar classes from time to time but I was adjusted by an iyengar instructor .. pulling on shoulder capsule from behind to get me into alignment for triangle.. well it caused an injury. I have also been yelled at by Colette in Seattle when I didn't wish to do my back bends through a metal folding chair. Alignment and form and teacher ego are certainly important.. but safety .. physical and emotional are more important.

I just don't get it. There is in my mind no reason to hurt a student or to yell at them.
I am now in position of givign advic etoothers about yoga schools.. do you think i recommend Iyengar schools?

If You Could Only Have One Book On Yoga

If one could only have one book on yoga, the new book, Classical Hatha Yoga by Swami Rajarshi Muni would likely be it. This is the only book on yoga the practitioner or teacher would ever need. It is probably the most comprehensive book ever written on the subject of yoga and it is written by a most highly advanced Yogi and is based upon his own intensely deep personal practice . Check it out on Amazon's Inside the Book Program, where you can actually see its contents as well as its summary. It can also be purchased at the Kripalu Book Store.

Rigidity in teaching

After some, admittedly, poor experiences at an Iyengar conference lately, I have to ask: do you find, as an Iyengar teacher, or an Iyengar student, that there is rigidity in the teachings?
What I would like to hear, ideally, is that each teacher, regardless of tradition, is understanding why we teach what we teach, instead of mindlessly passing it on.
Iyengar himself has called this practice an experiment.
And sometimes, some teachers, make me feel as though its lost that sense of experiment, and sometimes, lost it's heart. Mr. Iyengar, although a demanding teacher, has always had heart, always connects with his students. And unfortunately there have been a few teachers who left me feeling, well, jaded and depressed, instead of inspired and uplifted. Instead of feeling like I can overcome my obstacles, have left me feeling like I am defined as subpar for my limitations. The pursuit of the perfect pose instead of the pursuit of the perfect pose for my body.
Would love some feedback on this!

yoga styles, plotted on a grid

so i was hunting for yoga studios when i was in NY last week, and i stumbled upon a review of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of NY....

http://www.yelp.com/biz/iyengar-yoga-institute-new-york#hrid:jXWJXpPQ-gVAJVfYwVEU0Q/query:iyengar%20yoga

(if that link doesn't work, search for 'iyengar yoga' in New York on yelp.com).

anyway, someone took the time to make a little grid, lining up "authenticity" on one axis and "intensity" on another axis. he then mapped different yoga studios on the grid. (some people have a lot of time on their hands, apparently....)

i tried pasting it in here, but it won't format properly :(

so i'll just post his commentary instead...

=========================================================================================================
I have resisted reviewing yoga places given a special respect for the discipline. But as a practitioner for several years, I guess I'm allowed to express a few thoughts. Here is a silly chart to illustrate how I view the Iyengar Yoga Institute relative to other options.
[..................]

Authenticity measures how well the teachings conform to the age-old articulation of the discipline of yoga. Intensity is how far into the eight stages of yoga the teaching could get you -- the yoga poses being only the third in the sequence, followed by breathing, meditation and so on. Yoga education outside India focuses excessively on the poses. But with Iyengar yoga, one could hope to graduate to the higher levels with some effort. However, if attaining nirvana is what you seek, you had better find your own guru somewhere in the foothills of the Himalayas. No, seriously!
=========================================================================================================

so it got my attention, and i immediately thought of sharing it with y'all, curious to hear any thoughts....

A New Year's Resolution? Free Yoga Classes

Question: Ready for that "New Year's Resolution?"
Answer: ? (Didn't think so).

Well thanks to the "Grotto" at Sports Basement - you have a "free" chance to improve your well being ... ..

)n 01 December 2007, Sports Basement joined together with local yoga teachers to give a yoga gift to the community.
Next yoga class:

• Sunday, 30 December 2007 - 10:30 - 12:00 noon. -
• Yoga Flow - with Annie Leguennec
• http://www.sfgoju.com/

• Sports Basement --San Francisco
• 1590 Bryant St.
San Francisco, CA
(415) 575-3000
http://sportsbasement.com

And due to the very high turnout of yoga students, speed walkers, coach potatoes, Fat Tire Beer Specialist, snowboarders, and then some . . . Starting January 2008, Sports Basement will host free yoga classes each & every Sunday from 1:00 - 2:30pm.

Yoga Teachers of various styles (Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa, Raja Yoga, Kundalini, Anasara Yoga, Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, Anna Forrest Yoga, etc.) will present their unique connection with the yogic path.

Check back each month and see who’s in the mix – free yoga classes by yoga teachers of all walks of life. Official Website: http://ynottony.com/yoga1.htm

And, if you are a yoga teacher (or a soon to graduate yoga teacher) looking to share your knowledge, practice karma yoga (community service), and put yourself in the public eye, come join in & volunteer your services making yoga affordable for every individual. Pick one Sunday per month . . Teach as many months as you would enjoy doing. . . .

Yoga teachers will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Sports Basement (per yoga class) & can use the platform as a way of promoting themselves and their unique yoga experience.

Regardless, it's a grand opportunity to start the year on the right path, meet some like minded individuals, see life in a different light, & calm the mind.

* Yoga teachers of all schools of yoga are invited to teach.
* Yoga students of all levels are invited to attend.

For more information or to get your name on the yoga teacher's list - contact: Iyengar Yoga Teacher, tony at:: http://ynottony.com/contact.php

1. Send a brief Yoga Bio
2. Send a list of your available Sundays in January, February & March - 2008.
3. Send a link to your website, personal profile (Myspace, Zaadz, Tribe, Yelp review, etc) or something which speaks highly of you
4. Start advertising your yoga class

Wishing the best of all possible worlds,

Hi folks,

My first trip to the Iyengar Institute in Pune will happen next year (June and July 2008, woot woot!). And inquiring minds want to know...

Have you been to Pune?
What was it like?
What time of year did you go? How did the season affect your experience?
Who were your classes with?
What do I need to know about living in Pune itself?
Did you arrange your housing beforehand or when you got there?
Is it true you can hire an ayurvedic chef for $250 a month?
Did you ride a motorbike? If so, how's the traffic?

And anything else you wish to add....please share!

Yoga Teacher Wanted

Hello Yogis,

Omine Yoga Dojo in San Bruno is looking for a yoga teacher to fill a Thursday evening slot, 5:15-6:30pm. It's a beginner-level1 class. This is a great group of students. How do I know? I teach the class. However, for personal reasons, I'm unable to continue the class and the students are so driven to excel in their practice.
this is a wonderful studio which also has karate classes. The yoga room is spacious, lots of natural light, gets fresh air and has yoga props. It's a paid position and the teacher would get a flat rate.

If you have any questions and/or interested, please email me through my profile. also, you can check out Omine's website: www.ominekaratedojo.com.

Thanks and namaste,
-Liz

How to Levitate

THE GRAVITY OF THE SITUATION

Newton’s third law is that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Newton didn’t invent this law; he noticed it. I also notice it, and now I’m going to apply it and in the process share with you the secret of levitation.

Three Questions:
1) What is the opposite of Left?
2)What is the opposite of Forward?
3) What is the opposite of Gravity?

The third question is more like a yoga riddle and there are two things I can observe to see if someone is unfolding the riddle's meaning. First, to the extent that people transition out from postures effortlessly, they understand what is the opposite of gravity. Second, to the extent that people laugh at my jokes, they understand what is the opposite of gravity.

Here are two experiments you can do to understand and embody the principle of levity.

Experiment #1:
What did the fish say when it ran into a wall?
Dam!

Did you laugh? If not, you can try again up to 10 times. If after 10 attempts you still don't think this joke is funny, try some push ups.

Experiment #2
Stand with your two legs about hip width apart. Relax into the gravitational field and allow the body to naturally ease into equilibrium. Sense the line of gravity and then begin tuning your attention into the corresponding line of levity.

The line of Gravity I call the Gravity Line.
The line of Levity I call the Punchline.

A great secret of yoga and an essential key to levitation is to every day move a little closer to the punchline, reconciling weight and weightlessness. With care and attention, I’m sure you’ll get it. Good Luck.
Iyengar Defintion

My first class was hatha, I really enjoyed the teacher. She'd always start with slow sun salutations which gradually increased in speed and warming up the body before moving on to other more sustained poses.

My teacher moved away and I briefly did some Iyengar... My teacher encourged me to move quickly from pose to pose with out thinking.... I really really liked this.
Is this the typical defining trait of Iyengar???

After a year or so I shifted to another country and found an Ashtanga class with seriously long held poses..good for opening some areas but requires good conditioning and warm up in the first place..

So then i found another hatha class expecting the gradually increased tempo of sun salutations, but I find this guy goes straight into fairly long held poses and lots of his own spiritual dogma...

I'm looking for something faster and more flowing to compliment the Ashtaga..

Is Iyengar defined by faster more fluid moves or will I find something different again just b/c it's a different teacher??

Hi all.
I just finished reading The Tree of Yoga and I am very inspired. I am currently staying in rural Arkansas and there is no yoga instructors anywhere nearby. Does anyone have suggestions on learning and practicing yoga asanas without a teacher? Is it just a bad idea and I should wait until I can return to Seattle in a few months?

Thanks,

Mula banda and Iyenga

I have been doing Iyenga Yoga for quite a few years now with a wide range of teachers but can't recall there ever being any talk of engaging mula banda during asana. However, Ashtanga vinyasa yoga seems to make it a constant element in their practice. As I do more pilates I have become more attentive to engaging my core muscles, including my pelvic floor or mula banda, in moving though or between my poses. Moreover, sometime I find myself unwittingly engaging mula banda in certain asana and becoming aware of this when I pay attention.

Do any of you explicitly engage mula banda throughout your practice or only at certain times? Also (this may sound a little funny) but how much do you engage these muscles or this 'lock'? In my pilates adventures there are different views on fully locking your pelvic floor or only a 30% contraction to be sustained thoughout your practice.

This line of questioning more broadly addresses whether 'cross training' (so to speak) confuses or adds to people Iyenga Yoga practice. Do stay true to what we have learnt or do we integrate and change our practice based on our ever changing knowledge form other yoga and bodily practices like pilates? I know my own private yoga is now an eclectic hybrid of many different teachers input, reading and other diverse training - Can this be detrimental to our practice or can we be to dogmatic?

Also, is this addressed in peoples teacher training?

Thank you.

CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG

A Mongolian nomad family find themselves in disagreement when the oldest daughter, Nansal, finds a dog and brings it home. Believing that it is responsible for attacking his sheep, her father refuses to allow her to keep it. When it’s time for the family to move on, Nansal must decide whether to defy her father and take her new friend with them. Oscar-nominated director Byambasuren’s follow up to the hugely successful THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL is a thought provoking mix of documentary and drama that tells the story of the age-old bond between man and dog, a bond which experiences a new twist through the eternal cycle of reincarnation in Mongolia.

Yoga is a philosophy, practice, and tradition of liberation - liberation from the limitations created in the mind. Our true, natural, and inborn state is one of clarity, happiness, love, and compassion. With yogic practice, we become acquainted and intimate with ourselves. Yoga is a challenging inquiry and a heartwarming adventure!

Kate Ramsey is a certified graduate of the Piedmont Yoga Studio Advanced Studies Program, an 800-hour Iyengar-based teacher training. She is a resident teacher of yoga and a student of Sanskrit and Vedanta at the Yoga Society of San Francisco, and a regular student of Bay Area teachers Ramanand Patel, Richard Rosen, and JinSung. Kate's teaching style combines keen and committed attention to healthy postural alignment along with light-hearted kindness. She utilizes toning and mantra recitation as a tool for harmonizing body, mind, and breath. Kate finds great joy in exploring connection and community through yoga, music, movement, and study.

hey all beautiful beings,
does anyone know about iyengar yoga classes in the UK? i am shortly to return (living in the north - the lake district) but will be travelling to find things....

i heard to enable one to do the teacher training, one must have spent one year at least doing classes a few times a week and self practice ... does anyone know about the exact guidlines?

thank you, have a good day,
Always There

I know this confusion
as if it were my own,
this searching
from town to town
and time to time,
as if no place
were my own.

And I am often found
when I am most lost.

Remember when I wandered
through cloudless desert
like motherless child
looking for the mirage
that mirrored my dreams
when no thirst could quench
the never-ending drought.

You found me then
and took me in
with heart and soul
when it was everything I needed.

So, when you need me most,
just close your eyes
and go to that special place
that just we two know about...
for I am there.

Always there.

And for you,
it will be
as if I had never left.

I am in a yoga teacher program, and I just freeze up when doing my teaching assignments. all thoughts leave. Would anyone happen to have some dialog or scripts for a pose sequence ? I've written some but I would like to see some others. This sounds silly I know, but it happens. I want to deliver for the students a graceful presentation.

Thank you, D.

I've tried many forms of yoga, and I just have so much gratitude for the Iyengar teaching. Methodical and thorough, I'm pretty much assured an authentic yoga experience.

I can't say enough good things about it.

Is yoga a religion?

I have had some really interesting and heated conversations with my boyfriend (a non yogini) regarding yoga. The issue that continues to come up is defining yoga as a religion. I am not talking about asana practice but more about the the spiritual practice of the vedic scriptures and using mantra and other aspects for self realization and union with god. I have been taught that Hinduism and the yoga teachings were traditions of spiritual practice but not really defined as religion in the western sense of organized religion. I would love to get other peoples input and thoughts on this.

Namaste,
Drea

Yoga and Sound with Karl Erb at One Taste

One Taste is proud to Present Karl Erb

1074 Folsom Street, SF
Mondays, 4:30 to 6pm
www.onetastesf.com
415.503.1100

Karl Erb has been studying Iyengar style hatha and ashtanga yoga since 1983 with various teachers including Ramanand for many years. In addition, he has also apprenticed with Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher Evlaleah Howard.

The class will be an exploration of sound and tone as it can be used in a yoga practice to deepen awareness of breathe and energy (prana). Students will participate in making sounds that will focus attention in the mind-body connection during the postures.

Sequencing

I have a question about sequencing of the various postures/asanas. I have a home yoga practice due to the lack of availability of classes and instruction in my area. I also am an avid tribal fusion bellydancer so I like to use yoga to warm up.

So my question is basically this:

What kind of sequencing would be good to use as a dance warm-up, I want to be sure my muscles are very warm before moving into any postures that require deep stretching and definitely before dancing. I have tried sun salutations but they don't work that well for me because of the forward bend. I have short hamstrings so that area/posture is tight for me, my hamstrings do respond to practice but right on the mat - no way! I have to warm up to get them to respond well.

That actually leads me to a broader question, which is: How static is the way you should sequence your poses? How individual can you make the sequences to your practice/body?

Hope that makes sense...

Take Care.
-Dora

BKS Iyengar in SF on Oct 3??

So, a while ago, word got out that BKS Iyengar was coming to SF on Oct 3rd as part of a rare US tour.

Info on IYISF website said he'd be appearing at Davies Symphony hall & tix would go on sale approx 6 weeks prior to the event. There's still no info on Davies website about this, not even a mention on their event calendar. Now the IYISF website says "please don't call us or Davies for any more info about Mr. Iyengar's visit".

So, does anyone here know more about what's going on? Is the schedule subject to change? Are they just trying to manage the flow of requests for info? Anyone know when the tix are supposed to go on sale? or how much they'll cost?

Arrogance

This has been coming up alot for me lately.

A few people I know respect the Iyengar method, but believe that it produces arrogant teachers.

I enjoy the thorough teachings, but I have to admit, I've seen a lack of humility, almost an "addiction to certainty" in some of the teachers.

I've actually had people advise against Iyengar-style training because of this issue, while they handily laud the technique of the style.

I'm convinced this is completely a case by case basis. Some teachers are humility personified, and they tend to be more able than others that seem more arrogant...

But here's the question.

If the Iyengar method seems to overlook the spiritual importance of humility in order to discipline towards higher physical perfection... well... is it really just thorough asana practice and not really a well-grounded, well-rounded yoga experience?

Or is the test just that much greater for the individual? In other words, with more power accessible due to the thoroughness of the discipline, does the "humility work" or "compassion work" become that much more of a difficult task for the advanced Iyengar practitioner?

Thoughts?

Yoga Teacher Certification in New Orleans?California (Hatha)

I am looking for schools that specialize in Hatha yoga for certification when I get back to New Orleans this year.

I am already teaching yoga (in an ESL setting) in another country. I have experience...and now I am looking for a thorough education...or at least certification when I get back. I may be in California for a period of time as well...if you know of anything there.

thank you,

I am going to Amsterdam in June and plan to take a few classes with Cle Souren at the yoga centre in Amsterdam. Has anyone been there? There are quite a number of level 3, 4, and even 4/5 classes being offered and not very many level 1 classes, so I imagine the level of teaching is quite high. Cle is also giving workshops in Singapore and Hong Kong this spring. He's quite an internationally reknowned teacher.

Anyone here completed (or currently enrolled in) the SF institute advanced studies program?

I have been accepted into their 500 hour program, and I'm pretty positive I'm gonna go for it. I do, however, have a few reservations...mostly concerning the rigidity/barking orders in asana class/"iyengar is the only way" mentality I've encountered at times. I have been studying primarily Iyengar yoga and am attracted to this program because of its breadth and depth. I may end up teaching, and I may not.

any comments, suggestions, stories...

The Yoga Loft's teacher training with Tony Briggs

I took this course last year and loved it. Tony's amazing. He studied with BKS Iyengar and started teaching some 20 years ago. I've been studying & practicing yoga, mainly Iyengar, for over 11 years. However, his depth of knowledge left me feeling at the end of 9 mos. that I was just beginning to scratch the surface of what I need to learn in order to teach well.

Here's the details from the Yoga Loft's blurb:

*** The Art of Teaching with Tony Briggs ***

September 18th, 2004 - June 18th, 2005 (Courses meet Saturday and Sunday afternoons)

Tuition: $3,400* (See Payment Plans on Website)

* The Art and Craft of Teaching Yoga

* Skillful, Individualized Instruction

* Yoga Loft Student-Teacher Apprenticeship Program

* 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification

The 200-hour Art of Teaching program from The Yoga Loft was borne out of the desire to provide students with a broad framework for understanding yoga as it was originally intended: a practice of being and becoming. Whether you are interested in teaching yoga or going deeper into the asana practice, this program invites you to pay homage to the ancient wisdom of the practice and to honor yourself as a practitioner on the path.

The Art of Teaching is based on the experience & teaching of Tony Briggs (Hatha Yoga), and includes courses with Angela Farmer & Victor Van Kooten, Pratichi Mathur (Ayurveda), Ravi Nathwani (Philosophy), Jane Austin (Prenatal), Sofia Reinders (Psychology) & Dr. Ron Harwin (Living Anatomy). In this program, students are presented with both cognitive and experiential modes of learning in order to cultivate a living practice. Tony offers a yoga teaching apprenticeship designed to give new and prospective teachers a thorough, intensive and individualized training in the art and craft of teaching yoga. The emphasis throughout will be on personal attention and thorough grounding in the fundamentals of teaching yoga, in order to help each student develop and grow as a yoga practitioner and teacher.

We are excited about the scope and direction of the program, and hope that you will feel free to call or write with any questions. Students and teachers of all levels are welcome to participate in the entire program for certification, or any of the individual courses.

Akash Tattva (the space element)

This is a reply I wrote to a post on the Varahamihira Yahoogroups (a vedic astrology study group), that I thought to share here to stimulate a little Iyengar theory discussion.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Message:
Namaste.
We know that Akasa element is owned by Guru [the planet Jupiter]. Yet when one thinks of Aksasa in general we think of space or vacuum. How can this have influence on us as it is without dimension and is everywhere throughout the cosmos? I fact it IS DIMENSION that holds everything else.
Could it be when we think of Aksasa we need to look at:
Cidakasa or atma svarupa or conscious space;
Cittakasa or mind space;
Bhutakasa or element space and not just Aksasa on its own?

For Guru to have influence , it must be more then vacuuum …

Thoughts on this?

Pranams,
Frank in San Diego
------------------------------------------------------------------

Freedom's Reply:

Vacuum is shunya, emptiness, lack of akash or zero. From Shunya came akash, then vayu (air) then agni (fire), jala (water)and prthvi (earth). Akash (space/ether) is something that is, that exists, it is not vacuum. I think translations are harsh sometimes and also relative to their understanding.

I think you are hitting the nail in the head when you say it is the dimension holding everything else, it is the space that we exist in. It is the space that is in us. It is the space that can be harmonious or inharmonious. The Yoga [relationship between the Sun and Moon] at the time of birth is ruled by Jupiter. The planet lording the Yoga and its placement in the astrological chart will show how well you interact with others (what space you are creating with other people).

So the akash of an individual can be observed by the harmony (or lack of) around them.

Jupiter relates to akash in that it is everywhere holding everything and also in everything. Jupiter shows the manifest form of divinity, that is in us, yet also outside of us, yet also....everywhere.

In Ayurvedic psychology the Akash relates to the Atma (soul, while the vayu relates to the Chitta (mind feild), and agni (fire)relates to the Buddhi (discernment), jala (water) to the manas (emotional mind), and Prthvi (earth) to the ahamkara (ego); the five aspects of mind. Another name for Jupiter which the ancient astrologer sage Parashara uses is Jiva (life). The Jivatma (individual soul) is seen from Jupiter. According to Parashara the Sun represents the Sarvatma (the soul of All).

Some recent thoughts:

BKS Iyengar talks much about balancing the five elements with asana. He constantly talks of creating Akasha in the body through proper alignment which creates space in the muscles and joints.

I recently saw a yogi/author talking about creating Vayu (air) in the joints; but air on a physical level is vata and if this is in your joints you would have painful arthritis. Iyengar speaks of Akash, not Vayu being created in the body. And he uses awareness invoked from alignment to bring that Akasha into the body.

So on a higher level it is not Chitta that is being brought into the body, it is Atma that is being brought into the body, Jiva/Guru that is being brought into the body. This awakens Pratibha (the inner Guru guiding you).
conflicting lifestyles

Just wondering how many of you find difficulty in leading a yogic lifestyle in this country. I know most of my lack of contentment comes from my own mind and ways of ways of thinking that are rooted in past experiences. The paradox is that this is really how yoga brings about self discovery. It brings you face to face with your inner workings, good and bad.

With that said it doesn't really make it any easier to come to grips with the fact that I have high standards (not helped by me being a true virgo, I might add) and usually judge myself and others by those standards. If they aren't met I'm forlorn and critical. For example, while I don't drink or party I like to go out dancing. I find myself feeling awkward around people that are f'd up and have a hard time relaxing and relating.

I find this especially to be the case with dating. Sometimes I think I'm simply too nice. Out of pure respect for women and not wanting to come across as some sex only sleaze I sometimes dance around the subject of my intents. The plain truth is that if you stand to the side you won't meet that someone special. sigh...
Hi all...I just wanted to pass along my enthusiasm for the teacher training I just finished. I took the Beginning Teacher Training at Yoga Centers (in Bellevue, WA), with Aadil Palkhivala - 6 days of instruction in sequencing, adjustments, anatomy, nutrition, meditation, you name it. It was incredible. If you're interested in teaching Iyengar yoga, or just deepening your own practice, I highly recommend it.

Curious to know if anyone is reading this book, a travelogue of the author's visit to Pune, among other things. From what I've read so far, it seems a fairly even-handed portrayal of life at the Institute with all its internal paradoxes, etc. But because it sheds light on those internal inconsistencies, I'm wondering what people in the Iyengar world will think of it.

At the very least, if you're considering a trip to Pune, it should be read as part of the preparation.

Sadhana

I am in the midst of a 6 day Sadhana (intense, purposeful practice). We meet every morning at 6:30am to practice for 6 days in a row. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but when we're just coming out of winter it's a big challenge to get up that early after sleeping till 7 every day for the last 6 months... And yet so invigorating!

The real purpose of the Sadhana is to deepen the practice. By committing to it and observing your reactions to the work, you can learn alot about yourself. Do you show up every day? Do you skip some days? For what reasons? What obstacles are in your path? Are you responsible for their presence? How do we sabotage ourselves? etc.

Has anyone else ever done a Sadhana like this? I hear in some places the Sadhanas last for 40 days.
